Faculty Publication by Thomas Kniesche

Congratulations to Professor Thomas Kniesche on his new publication Spuren lesen und Zeichen deuten.

What innovative writing strategies have been developed by writers of German-language crime novels in recent years? What is the significance of historical crime fiction today, especially in Germany? Why can one argue quite convincingly that detective novels are "real literature"? The essays collected in this volume try to find answers to such questions.

In order to achieve this, novels by Friedrich Ani, Jakob Arjouni, Christian von Ditfurth, Wolf Haas, Uta-Maria Heim, Paulus Hochgatterer, Philip Kerr, Alfred Komarek, Volker Kutscher, Frank Schätzing and Andrea Maria Schenkel are analyzed and commented on in detail. These readings show not only the enormous progress made in terms of the quality of the German-language crime novel, but also the amazing range of current issues and problems that it examines.
